Teaching & Education

The CAA encourages and promotes Continuing Medical Education by specialists and trainees. We are involved in the training of junior doctors across a number of specialities and the Department of Anaesthesia, Intensive Care & Perioperative Medicine at Cairns Base Hospital is accredited by the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA) for 24 months of anaesthesia training and by CICM for 6 months of ICU training.

We are approved for ACEM trainees undertaking anaesthesia training. We are also an approved site for RACGP & ACRRM trainees to undertake their year of anaesthesia training towards the JCCA qualification in Rural Generalist (Anaesthesia).

Residents, Interns and Medical Students are also attached to this department and we assist in the training of paramedics.

We run a weekly program of clinical anaesthesia teaching and the Department provides teaching tailored towards the Primary and Final Examinations for Fellowship of the ANZCA.

Our teaching schedule and content is available through the calendar on the home page
